I ate wild Spanish blackberries today. It was a good day.

It was also a hard day. We covered 600m of net elevation, and it was hot, but it was beautiful. I thrilled over seeing windmills in the distance, then passing them by the end of the 20 km day. Much of the hike was spent in the forest, winding over rocks and mud and between mossy stone walls built who-knows-when. A shorter day than yesterday, but gearing up for another 27 km tomorrow! If all goes well and the weather holds out, we’ll attempt the Hospitales route, which is notably more picturesque, but with the tradeoff of no food or water stops for 30 km, so we’d have to carry a bit more with us. Crossing our fingers!

Ending today in La Cruce albergue, hosted by Carmen, whose kindness and hospitality is only outdone by the speed at which she speaks. Yowzas. For someone already struggling with the España accent, I’d be surprised if I understood more than half of what she said. 😉 We were also stumped by the washing machine…it’s been an adventurous day!

Ciao for now!
