Feliz Sábado de España! In order to set our Sabbath apart, Julia and I opted for a shorter distance, later start day, with less of a push for speed and more for enjoying the stroll through creation. We were richly rewarded, and enjoyed sharing a couple songs together looking down “from lofty mountain grandeur” while contemplating what a great God must have imagined such a beautiful place.
Julia was patient with me as I got quite grumpy during our steady descent toward the Navia River. I would estimate we trekked down a mild grade for 8-10 km, and my knees hated me for it. My somatosensory system got a good workout as we were constantly hiking on a grade, whether incline or decline. 22 km was intended to be a chill day, but we were still happy to reach our destination.
Speaking of which…this albergue ROCKS. Most facilities thus far have offered just a bunk and a shower, maybe a chair or two and perhaps a microwave. Here? A gathering room with two tables and full sets of chairs, three couches, TV, stove and kitchen set, two bedrooms, 4 showers, and washer/DRYER. For the same price, much more bang for buck. Were reveling in the luxury. 🙂
Tomorrow, 26 km. Bring it on!
