We did it.

Some days are hard. I woke up with sore feet (a morning-time first) and without feeling fully rested. I was simply tired. I typically have scripture in my pocket for memorization while we walk, but today, even that was too much for my brain and psyche. You reach a point at which everything from the waist down hurts, and yet, you keep walking. The aches coalesce into a dull roar that ebbs and flows with each step, yet somehow, you reach a sort of robotic march, moving forward without really feeling. Blame the spinal pattern generators, I guess.

Our longest day yet (10.5 hr including 1ish hour of sitting breaks), and the most miles I’ve covered in one stretch ever in my life. My tennis ball, spoon, and thumbs are getting an extra workout tonight. I keep smiling to myself as I see other peregrinos hobbling about the albergue and wincing as the hesitate to climb the bunk ladder.

The chilly fall weather and mornings of fog continue; we finally found sun when we stopped walking for the day. My socks pinned to the outside of my backpack never did dry – that’s a whole different story. 😉

We’ve made it back to slightly more populated areas, so we were able to stop for meals rather than bringing all our food. Amazing how dry toast with slabs of cheese makes the most delicious and satisfying sandwich when you’re hiking.

We pushed ourselves today to get a shorter day tomorrow, with more time to explore Lugo. We’ll see! Hoping a night of sleep will stop the hobble 🙂
